La Hacienda de los Martinez was built in 1804 and today stands as one of the last remaining "Great Houses" from the late Spanish colonial period. Positioned at the northern end of the Camino Real route, which began in Mexico, the massive adobe building was used as a trading post and hub of local agricultural operations. Filled with antique items, pieces of culturally significant art and historical collections of related items, the structure wonderfully conveys the unique heritage of New Mexico and the history of the cultures that have helped shape it. It is located a few miles west of Taos, past Ranchito.
