An art gallery and history museum, the Governor Bent House and Museum stands on the site where the governor died. Appointed as the first American governor of the New Mexico Territory in 1846, the legislation forced upon local Hispanic and Native American residents sparked the revolt that caused his death in 1847. Conveniently set in downtown Taos, near Kit Carson Memorial Park, the works of local Taos artists are showcased in the building's Bent Gallery of Western Art.
Open daily Summer: 9:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.; Winter: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
